On the average a person loses from 70 to 100 strands every day and it’s not a cause for concern. Hair roots stay in the scalp and grow again, so the lost hair gets replaced very fast and hair loss is absolutely invisible. In case if more than 100 strands fall out every day and do not grow again we can speak about hair loss. Millions of people suffer because of it.

Inherited hair loss

The most common form of hair loss is called androgenetic alopecia, or with other words inherited hair loss. «Androgenetic alopecia» literally means «hair loss under the influence of male hormones». Under Androgenic alopecia or constitutional hair loss we mean such kind of hair loss, which is caused by constitutionally hightened sensitivity of hair follicles to male sex hormones. This kind of alopecia increases with age. Androgenetic alopecia is the main cause of hair loss in 95 % cases with both men and women. It is usually inherited from one of parents.

Age-related hair loss

Under Alopecia sinilis such kind of alopecia is meant which leads to thinning of hair with age and which affects both men and women. The productivity of hair follicles decreases with age. Both men and women can suffer from age-related hair loss. According to genetic predisposition, hair loss can start as early as at the age of 20. It usually occurs at the age between 25 and 35 years old. At the age of 45 hair loss usually stops.

Round hair loss

Alopecia areata causes round bald spots on the scalp and is a pathological condition. According to the latest medical research, it is an autoimmune disease in which hair is lost from some or all areas of the body, usually from the scalp. Stress can usually cause this kind of hair loss and influences its intensity. Alopecia areata can occur at a very young age, both with men and women. This kind of hair loss is not inherited and can apper and disappear very fast. It usually takes from 6 to 12 months before new hair starts growing.

Scar-related hair loss

Scarring Alopecia is caused by scar formation on the scalp or other parts of the body. This type of hair loss results from postoperative scars or burns. Before a hair transplantation operation a thorough medical examination is necessary in order to prove that the operation will be successful.

Hair loss caused by other factors

Traction alopecia is a form of alopecia which is caused by pulling force being applied to the hair. This commonly results from the sufferer frequently wearing their hair in a particularly tight ponytail, pigtails, or braids. This kind of alopecia might occur if a man or a woman wear a wig or baccomb their hair. Thisproblem can be avoided if hairstyle is changed.
